Yoga has multiple health benefits and has proven to be great for the body and the mind. Many people are eager to try yoga, but unsure of what are the best poses to begin with. Here is a quick list of 7 top yoga poses that are essential for beginners and seasoned yoga pros alike. All are relatively easy to perform, and when done together, help to build a great yoga foundation.

    Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

Sure, it just looks like you’re standing there with your hands at your side, but Mountain Pose helps you build better posture, establish a solid base and foundation for additional poses, and actually gives your thighs and core some exercise.

    Tree Pose (Vrksasana)

Very similar to Mountain Pose, but with more effort to stand on a single leg, Tree Pose works your ankles, calves and thighs. Of course, it helps improve balance as well.

    Standing Forward Bend (Uttanasana)

This is a very straightforward pose that anyone can perform. It stretches your hamstrings and your spine muscles.

    Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I)

This pose improves balance and strengthens the ankles, calves and thighs.

Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)

This classic yoga pose stretches the calves, hamstrings and shoulders while strengthening the legs and arms.

    Boat Pose (Navasana)

The boat pose works your core, especially the abdominals. It also helps strengthen your hip flexors and arms.

    Locust (Salabhasana)

This pose helps stretch and strengthen your back and spine and prepares you for more complex and difficult back bends.
